$20 FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: History of Jamestown High School******2010 H/C

When it was first mooted in September 2008 that the Centenary of the commencement of secondary education in the Jamestown district should be celebrated, I believed an important part of that milestone should be the writing of a book, which told the story of Secondary Education in our community.
Whilst there had been magazines produced for the 1960 Golden Jubilee and the seventy fifth celebrations in 1985, there had been no comprehensive book covering the whole of the period.
Fortunately in John Glistak, a former teacher from 1979 until early 1992, we had a volunteer to write that book. John has extensive experience in the research of the historical record and had previously researched and written a number of local history books, including one for the Jamestown Football Club.
Some of the information in the pages that follow, (particularly for the early period), have never been revealed before. John has received assistance from Jamestown Local History Group Members, whom he has also acknowledged.
The book also contains a record of all those 4,227 students who have received a secondary education over the past century, together with their 353 teachers and the supporting 59 ancillary staff. Keith and Yvonne Woidt have researched the Admission Registers to prepare the list of students, and Yvonne has assisted with the formatting of the Staff list.
I trust that all who read this book will gain an insight into secondary education in the Jamestown district, and for those of you who are former students and staff members; you will have a record of your time at what is now the Jamestown Community School.
